Nora “Missy” Waller, of Blades, DE, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on June 24, 2026, after a fearless battle with cancer. Born on February 15, 1944, in Chester, PA, Missy's journey on this earth was marked by her extraordinary warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for those around her.

Missy was the beloved daughter of her late adoptive parents, Elgene and Martha Smith, who provided her with a nurturing and loving upbringing when they adopted her at the age of three. Missy always treated friends as if they were family. Her approach to life was defined by generosity and the sincere connections she cultivated with those around her.

Missy graduated the University of Delaware, where she earned her degree in Education. Her passion for teaching guided her through an impressive 40-year career as a dedicated grade school teacher, shaping young minds and touching countless lives. Early in her career, she also taught art, sharing her enthusiasm as both an artist and an art lover, and sparking inspiration in her students. Missy’s love for animals led her to embark on a second vocation as a Veterinary Technician, a role she embraced for 25 years. Her profound devotion to animals was evident in her home life; over the years, she lovingly owned and cared for more than 27 dogs.

In retirement, Missy stayed active. She was an active member of The Red Hats Society, celebrating friendships and camaraderie. She enjoyed golfing and swimming, found much joy in gardening, and enthusiastically shared her expertise in horticulture with everyone around her.

A source of pride for Missy was her unwavering commitment to the betterment of others. Many individuals found opportunities to attend college or trade school because of her generosity; Missy quietly paid their way, empowering them to achieve their goals. Throughout her life, she exemplified the belief that giving to others—whether time, knowledge, or resources—was among the most significant measures of a life well lived.

Missy is survived by her many beloved chosen family members and close friends of the Evaristo and Higgins Families . She is preceded in death by her adopted parents, Elgene and Martha Smith and partner of over 20 years, Jesse Evaristo.

Nora “Missy” Waller will be remembered for her unique personality, her spirit of kindness, her thoughtful heart, her commitment to education, and her endless love for both people and animals. Her legacy of generosity and compassion lives on in the many lives she touched.
