Vergil S. Davis, Jr., D.V.M., Ph.D.
September 7th, 1946 - April 18th, 2025
Vergil Sanford Davis, Jr., 78, a resident of Georgetown, DE, passed away on April 18, 2025, surrounded by his family.
For the past twenty-nine years, as a consultant for and in the latter years as owner of Lasher Associates, Inc., Dr. Vergil S. Davis, Jr. consulted worldwide with poultry vaccine manufacturers and other animal health companies. His clients have been located in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Italy, Romania, Israel, Russia, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan. Vergil served for twelve years as a Director of SoloHill Engineering, Inc., a Michigan–based producer of microcarriers. Prior to consulting, Vergil taught public school, practiced rural veterinary medicine, and developed vaccines for two major U.S. companies. He received his B.S. degree in physics in 1969 from Lamar University, his D.V.M. degree from Texas A&M in 1978, and his Ph.D. degree in Veterinary Medical Science from Mississippi State University in 1989.
Vergil enjoyed working in the lab, riding his bike, gardening, and conducting research. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters Molly Davis Stadalis (Joseph Stadalis) of Thibodaux, Louisiana, and Libby Sides (Dr. Jim Sides) of Pittsville, Maryland; grandchildren Hannah, Evan (Jamie), Kathryn, Kayla (Connor), Aiden (Lilly), and Olivia; great grandchildren Davis, Ava, and Evelyn; and sister, Sara Powell (Rus). He is preceded in death by his son Samuel Micah Davis and parents Vergil and Lois Davis.
Vergil was so grateful for the love of God. His wish was that everyone would read the Word, grow to know Jesus, live a life full of kindness and personal connection, and take care of those in need.
A gathering to remember and celebrate Vergil's life will begin at 1:00 PM September 27, 2025, at the family residence, 22943 Rum Bridge Road, Georgetown, DE. Lunch will follow. If you would like to do something to honor Vergil's memory, plant something – a kind word, a loving action, a tree, a garden.
